GOVERNMENT: What is Politics?

GOVERNMENT:
What is Politics?
.
The word 'politics' is derived from the greek word 'polis' which means 'city state'. The concept of politics can be best understood within the context of a state.
.
We are going to discuss three definitions of politics briefly.
.
-According to David Easton, Politics is the authoritative allocation of values within a state. This definition places politics on the view that political powers are used to share the scarce resources of the state authoritatively among the people.
.
-According to Abraham Harold, Politics is the determination of who gets what, when and how. This definition can be divided into three parts;
i. What,
ii. When and
iii. How.
This means that politics or political power is used to get what the utilizer of the power wants, anytime he wants and the process through which he wants it.
.

  • -According to Nnoli, politics refers to all those activities which are directly and indirectly associated with the seizure, consolidation and use of state power.
