LITERATURE: What is the difference between Elergy and Dirge?
-
Elergy and Dirge are both traditional poems composed to lament the death of its subject. They are both sad and mournful poems.
-
The difference is that Dirge is composed and performed at a funeral orally while Elergy is written for no specific occasion.
-
Bottom line - Dirge is oral while Elergy is written.
